much more than just a change of address

At Delinea Design, we decided to make a change; while we loved our studio in the Old Market Passageway, we found ourselves bursting at the seams – stretching creative storage solutions to the max. No more. Matt and I are both happy to announce that Delinea Design has moved into a new space, with all the historic charm of the Passageway and a lot more square footage. However, we didn’t go far – our new studio is located at 15th and Jones (701 S. 15th St., Suite 101, Omaha, NE 68102 – to be precise); just a stones throw away from where we were.

Our new studio is in a recently renovated warehouse (Joseph’s Small Engine building) with modern finishes and beautiful, brick walls and iron beams. There are a lot of advantages to our new space – 18′ ceilings, plenty of parking, ground floor storefront (no more stairs), enormous front windows and best of all, ample room for video and photography production along with space to design and create without limits.

We didn’t have to give up the charm of the Old Market for our move (cobblestone included), we are still close to all that the Market has to offer, but off the beaten path we’ve found a quiet space that lends itself to the in-house production. Our space was formerly a photography studio (built in 1925, I’m sure our space has a lot of former uses). While we are only just beginning to get settled our minds are racing as to the possibilities of the larger production space; Matt has proudly hung our green screen and just needs an excuse to use it.

Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about our clients – we are also happy to have an expanded area to meet with and discuss ideas and projects. Our new space has a large entry that will serve as a comfortable waiting area with a front desk, we will be adding our own finishes and furniture to make the space our own. Below – a preview of the new conference area; we just love the aging brick.

We envision a unique, multimedia creative factory – designing and building new and innovative projects; our new space will help us achieve this vision. While we are hard at work on projects, we will also be transforming our new space, making it our own. We have some great ideas that we will be implementing – we finally will have a use for our 18 theatre seats (screening room/film nights).

While we are excited about our new space, our goal continues to be the same, to create original, fresh designs that set our clients apart. We see the new space as only the first step in a series of changes and additions that will make Delinea better able to accomplish our goals. Stay tuned, we have more planned – in the meantime, if you don’t mind a work in progress, come visit our new space and say “hello.”

funky colors

So, I have to admit… we have been very bad bloggers lately. Things have been busy, so little has been updated as far as social networking. Therefore, our visits to our blog have been infrequent at best, so we just noticed that our colors are all out of whack and there are ads all over the place (note: delinea does not endorse nor promote any products advertised on our blog). To remedy this aesthetic abomination – we will be moving the delinea blog to our own server and giving it a completely new look when we redesign our main site. Of course, this all must wait for us to free up a bit of time… so, in the meantime, I hope the bright white/black and red motif doesn’t turn anyone away (note: if you are colorblind, disregard above).

Sifting through some old photos, I found this photo of Matt testing light-writing for the camera. A fun little process that allowed us to write out the letters “TROIKA” for the Creative Campus Nebraska website (www.creativecampusnebraska.com). Troika Ranch is a modern dance group that is all about movement, projection, light and interaction with technology… and we’re all about playing with new ways to integrate visual effects and design.

watching "The Diavolo Project" at the Ross Film Theater

“The Diavolo Project,” a documentary that Delinea has been working on for the past year, finally got to see the light of day (or at least the inside of a movie theater). Last weekend, “The Diavolo Project” was screened in Omaha at the Holland Performing Arts Center and then again the following day in Lincoln at the Ross Film Theater. It was such a joy to attend both events and get feedback from participants in the documentary, as well as people who where completely unfamiliar with the project. As far as we are concerned, the documentary is not complete yet. We decided to take this last week off (of course we kept busy on other projects) and plan to dive back into the world of Diavolo, to edit a final, one hour, piece that hopefully can find an even wider audience. We wanted to thank all involved in making both screenings so special, as well as those that attended both events and of course, Jacques Heim (the founder and artistic director of Diavolo) for allowing us unbridled access to Diavolo.

Self Portrait

This week Delinea Design had a visitor, a delightful young man named John Round. John is an 8th grade Montessori student at Central Middle School, here in Omaha. As part of a school assignment, John chose to see what work was like in a multimedia studio. John spent three hours each day, Tuesday to Thursday, with us. Day 1, John took our little FlipVideo Camera around the Passageway and captured video. He also helped us set-up for a shoot at a local restaurant. Day 2, John and I took the Nikon around and took photos of the Passageway and then edited them on the computer. Day 3, John learned how to edit his photos and video together to create a short little vignette that captures the diverse beauty of the building that Delinea Design calls home. John did a great job and I think he very well could have a future in video.

We are so happy to finally be moved into our new space. We’ve painted everything nailed down and added some cool finishes. Thank you to all who helped throughout the process and thanks to all who came to our open house! We are now (officially) open for business. Come visit us! We hope to open our doors again soon for another party… don’t miss it!
